The film is produced by Karan Johar and Shahrukh Khan under the banner of Dharma Productions and Red Chillies Entertainment.[1] The film is to be released on 19 October 2012On 5 January 2011, Karan Johar uploaded the first look poster of the new film on microblogging site, Twitter.[4] The film marks the debuts of Alia Bhatt, daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, son of director David Dhawan, Siddharth Malhotra, [5] and Boman Irani's son Kayoze Irani. Malhotra and Dhawan had previously worked as assistant directors under Johar during the making of the 2010 film, My Name is Khan.[6] This is Karan Johar's first directorial venture without Shahrukh Khan in the lead role.
