Musharraf brought an economic revolution in Pakistan with a GDP of 7% for more than 7 years, record high reserves, record high investment, soaring stock markets, hundred of new media channels, free market, business booming etc.
Then in 2007, just before the elections, Nawaz and his cronies (Imran, Qazi, and extremist organizations) unleashed violent movement, political lawyers, few media channels like AAJ and Geo against Musharraf. They destabilized the country on the context that Musharraf is the problem and they succeeded in retiring him from Army post and won some seats in elections also.
Even during that bad one year of Musharraf (which was just 1 year of his 8 years in charge) the one economic complaint that people had was high flour prices which we now know were due to shortage of wheat all over the world as many countries are now focusing on bio fuels etc.
Anyway you must have noticed by now that ever since Nawaz has come back to Pakistan and he has got the power all the violent activities have gone down. Now no one has problem with US in Afghanistan or Iraq which were often the reasons given by such extremists.
In reality these actions were by local Pakistani extremists and were serving interests of leaders like Nawaz, Imran and Qazi. They were never against US or others.
These thugs created lots of hue and cry over hike in wheat price but just look what has happened in 3 months.
-Children protest against load-shedding, price hike
-Price of 100-kg bag of sugar up by Rs20
-Price hike reaches alarming level
-Recently, the government has allowed increase in transport fares
-'Hike in POL prices makes poor's life miserable'
-Street agitation likely if situation persists: Analyst
-Traders voice against price hike
-A fine quality of Basmati, which was being sold at Rs55 in July last year, is being sold at Rs75 today
-Pakistani citizens' protest against a recent price hike holding electrical and gas meters on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 in Lahore, Pakistan
-Food Price Hikes Roil Pakistan
The rates of flour further rose by Rs 20 per kg
And what is Mr. Nawaz Sharif saying about this?
- Nawaz urges people to take to streets
Shame on these thugs.
Long Live Musharraf

Burj Dubai, the world's tallest building, is set to open on Monday in Dubai amid tight security.
The 160-floor tower will be looking down at a city struggling with an economic crisis.
As Al Jazeera's Dan Nolan reports, the building's opening is seen as part of an effort to salvage Dubai's reputation. But will the so-called superscraper attract enough business?
