▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
After a quite incredible barrage of rumor and speculation, Steve Ballmer has officially announced Microsoft Surface, which will be the Redmond company's first effort in the increasingly-relevant tablet market. Given the poor performance of most competitors to the iPad, the significance of its introduction to the market could be huge, and here, we take a run-down of its vital statistics.
From a design perspective, it's a lot different to anything we've seen on the market, and as you can see from the photos, could be a game-changer. Packed into an ultra-light magnesium body, it's finished off elegantly with PVD, while the screen is hardened by the Gorilla Glass previously used by Cupertino rival Apple in various digital products. The edges of the device are beveled at 22 degree angles to, as Microsoft's Steven Sinofsky points out, make the device "feel natural in your hands," but the finish isn't the only unique design quirk -- not by a long shot.
Beside being the only tablet with the liquid metal finish, it also features a nifty in-built kickstand, enabling the device to stand freely for movie-watching, without the need utilize / purchase any separate or third-party accessories. Intuitive indeed.
The killer feature, however, is the cover, which clips on magnetically to double as a touch-enabled keyboard -- a feature Microsoft feels essential to those looking to purchase a tablet. Named Type Cover, it looks simply stunning, and at three millimeters thin, it doesn't bulk out the device too much when being utilized as a cover.
The most interesting thing about the tablet is that it will come with a stylus, yes, a stylus. It is designed in such a way that writing feels completely natural and feels as if the pen is in direct contact with the display, something which has never been achieved before on a device of this calibre. Remarkable indeed. And oh, did we mention that the stylus magnetically latches on to the Surface's body?
It features a 10.6 inch display, which, as well as being larger than the iPad by almost an inch, offers more screen real-estate than most other tablet offerings to date. With semantic zoom, it will offer a seamless Windows experience, and will, of course, present users with the ability to download games, movies, and general content through the Windows Store from the get-go. With 32 and 64GB versions available, there'll be plenty of space for all that content to reside.
Not only does the Microsoft Surface have the credentials to knock the iPad off its perch, but it may just threaten the fledgling ultrabook market, because as well as a Surface for Windows RT, there will also be one -- packing Intel chips -- with full Windows, and desktop apps running capabilities.
Many have been disappointed with Microsoft's lack of a decent hardware announcement, but the stunning Surface looks as though it could turn the tablet market completely on its head.

Microsoft unveiled it's new Surface tablet and it is pretty sweet! For the first time Microsoft will be handling it's own hardware and software (kinda like Apple) in creating their own tablet that has raised the bar on everything else out there! The thing is powerful, sleek, and fast!
Surface is thin, light and it has a great battery. At 9.3mm, Surface for Windows RT is just thin enough to still sport a full sized USB port. Print, share, or charge your phone on the go!
Surface has a 10.6", 16:9 widescreen HD Display. Microsoft's ClearType HD Display technology delivers a great picture for movies. An ultra-wide viewing angle makes it easy for your friends to share in the vibrant experience. The auto-adjusting screen intensity delivers great visual clarity, indoors and out. The addition of the Micro SD card slot means you can bring your entire movie and music collection with you on vacation.
Surface has not just one, but two cameras. Use the front LifeCam to chat with the people that you care about. The rear-facing LifeCam is angled to 22 degrees so you can flip out the Kickstand and record meetings and events hands-free. Stereo speakers and dual microphones tuned for Skype help you sound like you are right next door.
Surface was designed to be your go-to-device. It comes with a precision crafted VaporMg casing that protects the vital technology inside and leaves a high quality finish and feel.
Touch Cover comes in five vibrant colors. Type Cover offers classic typing experience for those who prefer a more traditional keyboard. Pick the one that best meets your needs and represents your sense of style.
PRICE: TBA (But will be competetive and similar to tablets out today)

Here's a brief, but in-depth ...
A first look of Microsoft's brand new flagship tablet, the "Surface".
Here's a brief, but in-depth overview of the Microsoft Surface tablet:
Advances in Industrial Design
Conceived, designed and engineered entirely by Microsoft employees, and building on the company's 30-year history manufacturing hardware, Surface represents a unique vision for the seamless expression of entertainment and creativity. Extensive investment in industrial design and real user experience includes the following highlights:
Software takes center stage: Surface sports a full-sized USB port and a 16:9 aspect ratio -- the industry standard for HD. It has edges angled at 22 degrees, a natural position for the PC at rest or in active use, letting the hardware fade into the background and the software stand out.
VaporMg: The casing of Surface is created using a unique approach called VaporMg (pronounced Vapor-Mag), a combination of material selection and process to mold metal and deposit particles that creates a finish akin to a luxury watch. Starting with magnesium, parts can be molded as thin as .65 mm, thinner than the typical credit card, to create a product that is thin, light and rigid/strong.
Integrated Kickstand: The unique VaporMg approach also enables a built-in kickstand that lets you transition Surface from active use to passive consumption -- watching a movie or even using the HD front- or rear-facing video cameras. The kickstand is there when needed, and disappears when not in use, with no extra weight or thickness.
Touch Cover: The 3 mm Touch Cover represents a step forward in human-computer interface. Using a unique pressure-sensitive technology, Touch Cover senses keystrokes as gestures, enabling you to touch type significantly faster than with an on-screen keyboard. It will be available in a selection of vibrant colors. Touch Cover clicks into Surface via a built-in magnetic connector, forming a natural spine like you find on a book, and works as a protective cover. You can also click in a 5 mm-thin Type Cover that adds moving keys for a more traditional typing feel.
An Amazing Windows Experience
Two models of Surface will be available: one running an ARM processor featuring Windows RT, and one with a third-generation Intel Core processor featuring Windows 8 Pro. From the fast and fluid interface, to the ease of connecting you to the people, information and apps that users care about most, Surface will be a premium way to experience all that Windows has to offer. Surface for Windows RT will release with the general availability of Windows 8, and the Windows 8 Pro model will be available about 90 days later. Both will be sold in the Microsoft Store locations in the U.S. and available through select online Microsoft Stores.
Contributing to an Expanded Ecosystem
One of the strengths of Windows is its extensive ecosystem of software and hardware partners, delivering selection and choice that makes a customer's Windows experience uniquely their own. This continues with Surface. Microsoft is delivering a unique contribution to an already strong and growing ecosystem of functional and stylish devices delivered by original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to bring the experience of Windows to consumers and businesses around the globe.

Maybe only if the gamers are into it. Rumors about Microsoft's big announcement this week were focused on a new computing gadget from the company that could work hand in hand with the Xbox 360. Some speculated Microsoft would also shed further light on a $300 million deal with Barnes and Noble, which could see an e-reader running Windows 8 and other features friendly to the publishing world. But several outlets, including USA Today and others, have reported that the partnership won't be part of Microsoft's big announcement.
For gamers, the biggest news would be a tablet with the guts and the connectivity to power real gaming—and streaming—from Xbox. That would require some powerful hardware, but it's not at all out of the question for the company. And beyond gaming, an increasing number of content partners with Xbox in recent months suggest that it might have an even bigger plan for world domination...a total replacement for your cable television providers.

Learn how to capture Bokeh pictures with Nokia 808 PureView http://nokia.ly/MbgWc5
The bokeh effect, or background blur, is a highly valued feature among portrait and macro photographers, as it allows you to focus on a specific subject in a photo. The Nokia 808 PureView has SLR like bokeh thanks to its very long focal length of 8.02 mm. Typical mobile phone cameras have a focal length of 4 mm.
The longer the distance between your subject and the background, the more powerful the bokeh effect. For the optimal bokeh effect, the subject should be less than 0.5 metres away from the camera.

Our new bird grows out of love for ornithology, design within creative constraints, and simple geometry. This bird is crafted purely from three sets of overlapping circles — similar to how your networks, interests and ideas connect and intersect with peers and friends. Whether soaring high above the earth to take in a broad view, or flocking with other birds to achieve a common purpose, a bird in flight is the ultimate representation of freedom, hope and limitless possibility.

On 5th-6th June, it is your last chance to witness one of the rarest predictable events in astronomy - the planet Venus will pass across the face of the Sun. This event, called a transit, will not occur again until December 2117. Transits occur in pairs eight years apart, separated by 121.5 and 105.5 years. The contemporary footage and photos in this video were taken during the 2004 transit, which was best seen from Europe, Africa and Asia. The 2012 transit will be best seen from east Asia and Australasia, but it will be visible as the sun sets across the whole of North America, and as the sun rises in Europe. Venus will appear as a black dot on the Sun, and will take more than six and a half hours to cross the face. It will not cause noticable dimming of the Sun's light, so appropriate eye protection must be used while observing the transit, to prevent damage to the eyes.

In May 2012, while the world's eyes were on the Space X Dragon launch, another piece of history was made.
In the Scottish Highlands four intrepid Vangonauts attempted their first mission and managed to pitch a tent at 104,000ft (over three and a half times the height of Mt Everest).
Mission control was in the Scottish Highlands near Oban. The tent was launched in light winds, and initially headed South East, before catching the jetstream and heading North East.
The tent was tracked by GPS by the ground crew who were then able to plan a rendezvous with the campers post trip. The mission landed in wilderness near Loch Tay resulting in a 10km hike through snow, hail and bogs for the ground crew to rendezvous with the intrepid campers. It is hoped that in future Space Camping missions, less remote landings can be orchestrated for the convenience of the campers.
Project AirBeam® "Space Camping" Technical Data:
Initial ascent rate: Approx 5.5 metres per second
Trip duration: 1hour 42 mins
Trip ground distance:
- By Air: 68.91 Kilometres
- By Road: 95.8 Kilometres
Trip peak altitude: 31.5 Kilometres
Trip monitoring: 2 x GPS trackers giving location updated every 4 minutes to mission control.
Ground pressure: 1020 millibar.
Destination pressure: 3-4 millibar.
Helium use: 8 cubic metres
Launch balloon diameter (ground level): 2.5 metres
Launch balloon diameter (peak altitude): 10+ metres
Descent rate:
- Stratospheric: Approx 70-80 metres per second
- Sub Tropopause: Approx 6 metres per second
